ABOUT ME
I am currently a mentored birth and postnatal doula.
I first attended a birth when I was 17 years old and looking back I believe this is where my doula journey started. The more I learn about the support doulas offer and the difference having a doula present at a birth can make, the more I know this is the path for me.
I believe you should have the opportunity to have your birth experience in a way that makes you feel informed, in control and listened to and to start your new life as a mother in a positive way. I will respect and support your birth choices. In my experience when women feel prepared, respected and considered it can lead to a much more positive birth. As your postnatal doula I will help you settle into your new life in a relaxed way so you can enjoy those precious first weeks.
I feel that it is important that partners feel supported as pregnancy, labour and birth can be a difficult time for them. I will work with your partner to help them to support you but also provide support that they may need through this journey. In my experience if a birth partner feels reassured and confident it can really help a labouring mother to relax and feel safe.
I live in Reading with my partner and our 2 children. Both of my babies were born in the Royal Berkshire Hospital. I had two very different pregnancies and two extremely different births! In my spare time I love spending time with my family. We love getting out and about and exploring the world, especially if the weather is nice! I love to bake and find the process (and end result) very good for the soul! I try to make time for exercise and often use this as my ‘me time’.
I am a member of Doula UK and you can also find me on the Birth Bliss doula register. I am part of the Berkshire Doulas. We offer each other peer support and try to meet once a month for cake and a catch up. I am a user rep for the Reading Maternity Voices Partnership the aim of which is to consult with local people to improve maternity services in the area. I am also part of Everything Baby Berkshire which is a collective of pregnancy, birth and family workers who offer a range of services for bump, baby and beyond.
I would love to hear from you further and look forward to sharing this exciting time with you.
